People to Watch - Jane Deezy #229

About a month ago I got an email from a NZ hiphop artist asking me to check out her music. I did, I liked it, and I planned to talk about her music soon. I sent another email asking for more info and started a write up. You could tell there was major talent there. I hesitated about pressing the publish button, not because I didn't like the music, but because I wasn't at the stage where I was obsessed with it - yet. And you guys are the ones who read this, so when I write about something I want you to know that I am serious about it; therefore, you should want to be too.

I kept that article ready to be published in a magazine I was writing for, and I waited for the right time to release it. Today I got another email saying I should check out a new track and [quote], "It's a big song, MUST BE PLAYED LOUD as all hell." This time I pressed repeat so many times I almost broke my mouse pad (fo serious). S*** just got real. This track is so sick! The vocals are so on point! And the overlays?! Like seriously! Make sure you hit the download button because she's such a good bitch she gave it to you for free. Not only that but the album artwork was created by Askew One. Could this get any better? World, meet Jane Deezy.

People to Watch: Poolside #159

Based out of Los Angeles these two friends/music producers are the self proclaimed kings of daytime disco. I am actually obsessed with their music at the moment. It makes you want to be drinking mojitos, next to a pool (of course), with 1950's umbrellas and French waiters serving gourmet cheeseburgers in brightly coloured swimming trunks. Every musician hates being compared to others, but for the sake of those who will not click the 'play' button without sufficient convincing, I would say their music is like Robyn had a baby with Bon Iver, who then fostered it out to The XX, who then overdosed it on acai berries. Serious. It's amazing music.

Good news too- Poolside have their first single coming out soon and who's more excited than me?

Have a listen here:

Now this is talent #130

I have, on occasion, been known to weep like a weirdo when I hear an amazing singing voice. I remember I had a friend who wouldn't sing infront of lots of people and I kept trying to get her to sing me a song. One day we were sitting at the piano and she played an Enrique Iglesias song. I was seriously trying to do the whole 'look at the roof to hold back the tears' thing. After that she didn't stop singing in front of lots of people, and that song became something we performed together for the next 3 years.
That shit cray.
These are some other singers that make me weep like a weirdo.

Inspiration Thursday: Morgs Playlist For Your Run #117

When I run this is the playlist I put on. It's a little dramatic but it keeps my anus moving. Try it sometime:

This Russian Girl #106

I'm staying with this Russian girl at the moment. She's really nice except she doesn't speak much English. Actually she speaks no English. So for the past 3 weeks all our communication has been done through Google translate. It's frustrating to say the least. However last night I pulled out my keyboard to play some music (I'd had too much wine). Turns out she's a professional violinist. Finally we had a language we could both speak. Even if it was 'scales' and 'bridges' (music lingo, for the ill-informed); it was awesome.

Janine and the Mixtape // BULLETS #99

Have you heard of Janine and the Mixtape? Well you should have! Their first single Bullets drops, or rather speaking from the past 'did drop', this Monday the 16th of April. Janine Foster, the ever so talented vocalist behind Janine and the Mixtape, is one of those people you look at and go "dayuum gurrrl you is off the chain". As well as kicking anyones ass at sing off she also has one of the best 'street' style looks out there. And guess what? -What Morgs?- She's a kiwi!
If there's one thing you should do today it's to head over to Janine & the Mixtape's Youtube channel and check out Bullets. Or if you're really on the ball and you're reading this minutes within me posting it then you can hop on over to FOUR and watch the premiere in about half an hour!

Kimbra & Annah Mac = Recording contract. Morgs = not so much #85

© Garth Badger
Love the photo's Garth Badger took of Kimbra in New York this winter. The location where the photo above was taken is where I was running yesterday. Weird.

I thought I'd share a little tale about my Kimbra encounters. So way back in the day Kimbra was in rockquest (for you Americans it's a national pseudo-rock competion for high school students). I too was in that rockquest event. Kimbra performed before we went on stage and she got through to the regionals, so did we. Turns out Kimbra had some major talent and went on to win stuff. I was totally jealous. Now she's got a major record deal and such. No biggie. And to add to that, just because I can and I'm a vain mother f***er, I also won this placing in Play it Strange (a national songwriting competition) and I got to record a single. Turns out that same year Annah Mac was also a finalist. And she too, now has a major recording contract. Fark I should start playing music again for real, fo real. Holla

Quite serious about this rapping. I be cookin something. Watch out David Dallas, I'm comin to get ya rah rah. Kidding kidding that guy is untouchable at the moment!

And I'm out.
Peace, Morgs
p.s I am blogging to you from the Hamptons. I can't say too much about what I'm doing but it's just a bit of fun work photo shooty stuff. Too exciting!
