Odd Future. I love how these guys just do what they want. Maybe you don't like what they do, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they've built such a successful and diversified brand. Why does it work? 1. Because they understand their market; but, more importantly, their market understands them. And 2. Because they're a collective. Collaboration man, it's all about collaboration.
These guys support each other and work together to build a better brand. I'm not sure the success story of 'that one person that rises above everything to build an empire' is relevant to today's success spectrum. The climate of 'making it' has shifted. In my opinion, it's more important to to collaborate with others and diversify your skills than to spend time working on 'one' career path that you don't really like. Collectives and collaborations are what is fueling 'now'. Forget what happened 20 years ago. This is what's happening now - just ask the internet.
