Poems of New York City #313

About a month ago I saw this couple arguing on the pavement - absolutely ripping each other apart (verbally). Naturally, I sat and watched. It lasted like an hour. At the time I wrote this crazy long poem about them and I just discovered it in my journal.

Two sittin' next to y'all fightin bout weed,
Talking about getin a job to flee the cit-ee,
But she huffed all the do,
And screwed their chances to live a new.

Now they're sittin' on opposite steps,
cursin' shit - I gotta be the best,
He's standin' gettin real aggressive,
she's all possessive.

She don't know if she really loves him,
Or she's holding on to what was them,
The old them,
The untold them.

  1. This is so funny, on my visit to NYC I passed atleast three couples fighting / breaking up.

I was astonished that they're so public about it. When I do my Kim K ugly cry, I like to do it in private...!
