A talk with Jay-Z's producer #177

Shit's about to get real!
Last night I went down to an industry talk hosted by Jay-Z's longtime producer, Young Guru. It was incredible. He bought his friends Sean C and LV (legends in the beat making world) who worked extensively on Jay-Z's American Gangster album. They pretty much re-created the title track live in front of us. It was a once in a lifetime look at hiphop history. They told countless stories of working with Jay but one such story, that I thought was pretty legendary, was how the 'hook' for American Gangster was written. So the story goes, Jay was trying to write the hook and thought he'd go to the gym and come back to it later. He left his computer open and when he came back he found that Beyonce had written the hook while he was at the gym. Epic super-couple moment. Aside the awesome stories of creating the A.G album there was a real insight into what it takes to be in the hiphop industry as a producer- a lot of hard work and some serious respect. Word.
